UNDERCLOUD – International Independent Theater Festival returns, between 22^nd-31^st of August, with an extraordinary selection of national and international shows and cultural events. The festival reached its ninth edition and will take place in a new location, right in the middle of the city: ARCUB Gabroveni, one of Bucharest’s emblematic historical buildings, which now is a renowned modern center, dedicated to urban culture. Thus, Gabroveni Inn’s five halls will host, for ten days, the numerous productions and side events offered by UNDERCLOUD Festival.

„UNDERCLOUD invites you to relieve the unique experience of a festival that highlights the quality, the innovation and the experiment. Ten days full of theater, at the end of the summer, on a new venue, in the heart of Bucharest, to switch us on the theater mode for the autumn”, described Chris Simion, director and the festival’s director, the vibe of UNDERCLOUD 2016.

The ninth edition of UNDERCLOUD – International Independent Theater Festival offers the public the newest and most intriguing productions in the independent field in Romania, but also several international performances. This year, the guests come from UK, France, Greece, Israel, Russia and Republic of Moldavia.

UNDERCLOUD continues to keep the three main sections with which the public is already accustomed:

• the ”Contest” section, within which will participate Romanian performances which proved to be original and new;
• the ”Guests from Romania” section, which includes already renowned performances and which encourage, through their participation at the festival, the dialogue between famous actors and artists who have just begun their journey on the stage;
• and ”Guests from abroad” section, which exists since 2014, when the festival turned international.

One of the novelties of this edition is the „One-man/one-woman show” section, which highlights a type of theater with a great deal of potential, but which is unjustly poorly represented. Besides the theater performances, at UNDERCLOUD – International Independent Theater Festival will take place side events, such as book launches, workshops, master classes, held by personalities from the field of Romanian theater and from abroad. Also, the festival will include an event dedicated to DADA movement, with the occasion of its centenary.

UNDERCLOUD takes place under the aegis of „Europe for Festivals. Festivals for Europe” program, an important international certificate, given by the European Commission and the Association of Festivals in Europe. UNDERCLOUD is the only international independent theater festival in Romania which was awarded with this distinction.
